Building sustainable, in-house evaluation capacity

As part of a project to strengthen evaluation capacity for mental health, substance use disorder, and developmental disability service agencies in Champaign County, the Family Resiliency Center has created a series of training or microlearning videos. We hope to foster a culture of continuous improvement through participatory and empowerment approaches.

How to Avoid Overpromising & Underdelivering

Sometimes agencies find themselves wanting to promise the world. This video addresses how and why to give yourself permission to focus on quality and not quantity of outcomes.

Dariotis, Dana Eldreth, Rachel Jackson-Gordon, Stephanie Sloane. Funding provided by the Champaign County Mental Health Board and Champaign County Developmental Disability Board.

Process & Outcome Evaluation

This discussion between Jeanne Kramer (Director, The Autism Program and Illinois Neurodiversity Initiative) and Rachel Jackson-Gordon (Postdoctoral Research Associate, Family Resiliency Center) covers some of the differences between process and outcome evaluation. Their conversation uses a tool called a logic model, and in particular, it addresses the role played by satisfaction surveys in evaluating processes.

Logic Model - Inputs

This is the first microlearning video in a series about logic models. It addresses what a logic model is and why it matters in addition to discussing the first part of a logic model: inputs.

Logic Model - Outputs

This is the second microlearning video in a series about logic models. It addresses what outputs are and the distinction between a process indictor and outcome evaluation.

Logic Model - Outcomes

This is the third microlearning video in a series about logic models. It addresses what outcomes are and the elaborates on some of the differences between short-, intermediate-, and long-term outcomes.

Filmed, edited, and produced by Nathaniel Underland. Written by Nathaniel Underland. Evaluation team: Jacinda K. Dariotis, Dana Eldreth, Rachel Jackson-Gordon, Stephanie Sloane. Funding provided by the Champaign County Mental Health Board and Champaign County Developmental Disability Board.

Logic Model - Sample Evaluation

This microlearning video features a conversation between Dave Kellerhals (Director of Clinical Services, Rosecrance Behavioral Health) and Jacinda Dariotis (Director, Family Resiliency Center) provides an example of how one might apply a logic model to individual programs or services.
